College Humor!!!

I had the privilege to do  favor for a friend who works for CollegeHumor.com and needed a "thank you" type card for all of their clientele and partners that have brought them business over the year. All they really do is give a free t-shirt out every year so i figured i'd give Santa and his yittle elves a reason to be so lazy on the most wonderful time of the year.....even though Hanuka is better.

As far as process work.....there wasn't much of it at all, in fact the project was brought to my attention the day before it was due, but if i had my way with it....i'd probably throw in a few more textures on the elves, throw in an empty cookie tray with some crumbs, and maybe light the scene a little better so that the background and foreground seem further away from each other rather than the hideously flat depth perception it has now... perhaps i'll touch it up a bit later.

maybe looking for a CollegeHumor.com internship this summer?......that would be a trulyinspiring experience so cross your fingers......

The Next Big Animation:

My Concept and Computer Animation classes are joining forces for the next big animation that i will begin next semester in Computer Animation 2. It's a 15 second animation with a made up character who comes into frame, takes two steps toward a seat, sits down, has a change of emotion, and then gets up and walks off frame. Next semester will start with the 3-D modeling of this character and will be followed by the actually animation which i assume will take about a month and a half at most but im not yet sure how they plan to space it out. This character design is due for concept next Tuesday and will be critiqued to make sure the character consists of convenient shapes for animating and wont be a hassle to rig. This is just the 1st draft of this character but im only putting it up because i dont think ill be making any durastic changes between now and next class but we'll see.

Concept

This movie clip (link below) is my first animatic ever. An animatic is a short story told through rough camera angles that you would use as reference if you were to make a full fledged motion picture out of it someday. The animatic below is about a mutant hobo who trying to find a way to get some spare change so that he can buy something to eat. You'll recognize that the quality of lines in each shot is poor quality but just keep in mind that its the readabilty of each shot thats important not the detail of what is in each shot.

So at the end of the animatic if youre not scratching your head then i've atleast pulled off something.
enjoy and feel free to critic...

Update on Progress

This is my final model for the Poly Character Design. I added a bump map for texture and added a few things like a bruised right eye and bbq burn marks on the pigs back just to add some character.

Simple Poly Character - Pig

This is the last character that i'll be making before the semester ends. In a nut shell you have to model and rig a character within about 2 weeks, and then for the next 4 weeks i will have a different animation exercise that ranges from a walk cycle to a turn around with this new character.

Primitive Theater

Its finally done......

As much as i worked on the animation the sound i think is what gives it it's lasting appeal at the end of the day. I was deciding between a few corny techno songs but ended up with something familiar and catchy instead with a little help from jock jams. As good as i think the speakers turned out it really was a click of the button which just goes to show how easy it can be sometimes to get those realistic textures. The vampire theme took a back seat in the project until the very end although that was one of my first ideas but it did give me a reason to use a vampire hiss which reads better for making the tape look angry and the iPod scared and as long as you get that impression then i guess i accomplished something.
